Have you heard of the term “House Head(s)?” Don’t worry if you haven’t. It’s not a bad thing. It’s a term of endearment for someone who is wholly immersed in house music. If you’d like to dig deeper into what it is, check this House Music link out. I consider myself one.
All of that to say—if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that from time to time I jot down what I call aphorisms that I/we can subscribe to in our lives. They’re always accompanied by a photograph from my Coney Island House series that I believe exemplifies the aphorism (click here for definition).
Sometimes, they make direct sense. Other times, it’s just a feeling. It’s all about promoting positive vibes in the world. I thought it a good idea to share them here…
The rhythm makes you... Create! The visual of seeing someone express themself in the dance is refreshing, especially when that expression is spellbinding. It's truly amazing in seeing the unlimited languages that are expressed in movements of dance.
When you do your own dancing, are you feeling its spiritual effects? When that tingling feeling enthralls you, and want to burst out in joy--how do you handle it? When was the last time you danced like nobody's watching! Letting your body's desire take you where the freedom of movement want to go. Oh, those feelings of sharing! That joy in receiving an equal response from those around you, as well as those you may be dancing with. (Dancer: s_p_y_d_e_r/Aishah)
The rhythm is... The Relationship. Two personalities that have never met before, come together in motion and harmony to release that great feeling of joy and happiness within the dance.
We see things with each second of time that passes. Sometimes not knowing what was seen--though unconsciously understanding it. Then reflecting what was "seen" and returning that signal back to the giver in response if necessary. Letting another person know that they are seen and understood. Positive understanding without words, it's so doable when you work on it just a little bit.
The human connection is one of the foundations within House Music. Extolling positive vibes to those around you. The dance, sharing the release of serotonin with another. Reaching a level of euphoria with a fellow human you didn’t know a few moments before.
The drum’s tempo sets the pace. Your body feels the need to move with it. The harmonics from bass guitar vibrates your skin and opens your soul to the possibilities of sharing that moment with someone else-whether you know them or not. It’s about harmony and connecting.
The person on the left was a member of a wedding party that had just arrived. The person on the right was dancing by themself. This moment happened after they had been dancing for a short time. Their connection in rhythm is palpable.
Thanks for taking the time to read these anecdotes, I appreciate it immensely. There’s more to come.
Please leave a comment of your thought if your feeling it (I hope it does). Sharing is caring!
