Ten Frames #104
One Minute
Ten Frames is a series of video/slideshow shorts on a singular theme. The theme for this one is Theory Over Time #76.
The unique thing about Theory Over Time #76 is the day which it was made, July 21st, 2020, the early months of the CoViD-19 Pandemic. Here, an hour of time during the middle of an afternoon at the “crossroads of the world,” viewed in all its near deserted touristy glory during one of the scariest health crises in human history.
"Theory Over Time" are sets of ten photographs, randomly initiated, then at six minute intervals (exactly) over the course of an hour. Launched in 2014, each set explores serendipity, space, time, light, and movement among other universal aspects of existence. It’s ten photographs due the number of 6x7cm frames when using 120 roll film.
It’s not quite the same as time-lapse photography where regular time is compressed into hundreds to thousands of frames that are sped up, as showing the passage of a day into a few minutes. The hour it took to take these photos is compressed into a minute—the photos are not sped up. They’re slowed down. Hoping you the viewer, would take your time and explore the little differences between each frame.

Wishing you well until next time…

I love this technique to observe the human and urban life. The technique is called (or is a part of) “ rephotography”. Also wanted to share with you a movie where the technique is depicted and well explained by one of the characters. The movie is “Smoke”, from 1995. Here is a clip where one of the characters talks about his photographic project https://youtu.be/JGV_h36uZ5E?si=b5wxlYk9tcFRLlfE
Visually stunning viewing full screen and volume up with the perfect soundtrack. On my shortlist to do, thanks for the inspiration.
