"Ten Frames" is a series of one-minute video/slideshow shorts on individual themes. The theme for this one-minute video is “Focus Breaking.”
“Focus Breaking,” a rather unorthodox conceptual idea of mine. It breaks with the standard approach of taking photographs. Doing the opposite of the expected. In 2019 I experimented with some photographic free-thinking, working with a contrarian mindset in picture-taking.
Don’t autofocus
Don’t manual focus
No focusing at all
Most people strive to get the highest level of sharpness in their photographs by focusing on specific things that are in view. You the viewer, always bring your life’s story with what you see and feel as you view.
If you feel alienation in comprehending what it is you’re looking at, then my intent was successful. Empowering you to expand the possibilities of how you see.
Technical details: focus was set at a distance of 2.33ft (0.7m) for all photographs. The closest focus distance of the lens used.

Thank you! I appreciate you taking time in your day to view the slideshow.
Til next time…
Cheers!
I AM intrigued! I have seen a drift in this direction lately and I think it speaks to something bigger happening to us as photographers. Less focus on clinical sharpness, aggressive communication that steers you toward a strong opinion. Good stuff Kenneth!
I like this. They almost seem like bits of daydreaming when you let your attention wander for a few seconds and just before you snap back to being present.
