Kenneth, our Seattle 4 yr anniversary is coming, the 30th of May our first major protest. I'll be sharing thoughts on that day. In the meantime, I am curious what you think the legacy is of the protests? Did they lead to lasting change? Police reform? All police reform measures here in Seattle hit a dead end. Not a complete loss, some changes occurred, but minuscule compared to the grievances the protests set out to address. Curious your thoughts.

Hi Mark.

I look forward to your posting about May 30th. Regarding the legacy of the movement. I believe its impact is still reverberating through society. The fact that it happened (even with the lack of laws passed) shows the power of the people into a movement which has the potential to change the power structure. One of the major chants that I kept hearing comes to mind "It's not a moment, it's a movement!"

The renaming of city streets to "BLM" Plazas, and those named after George are small visual steps that confirm the existence of the movement. It may seem inconsequential, but will hopefully reap benefits in time. The status quo is tough to crack, and requires persistence and continued reengagement in breaking it down.

The massive show of support in the protest rallies and marches for Palestinian lives reminds me of the support shown to the BLM movement. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the people that showed up for BLM, are now showing up for Palestinian lives. The ending of life is the tragedy that galvanizes these concerned humans--to challenge and criticize the inequalities and/or injustices that they see.

Just a few of my thoughts...

Cheers!
